The Red River cart was used by Métis people on the Plains through most
of the 19th century to carry goods. In addition to its use as a transportation
vehicle, the Red River cart served as a temporary home during long trips.
Red River carts are an important part of Métis culture and are proudly
presented on various Métis flags and logos. They represent the craftsmanship
and entrepreneurial spirit of the Métis people. Red River carts were noisy --
wood and leather produced an ear-piercing squeal audible for kilometres. The
Métis did not grease the axles to soften the sound because it would attract
dirt that would eventually clog the parts and slow the vehicle.
We used “Get in loser...” to honour the power of meme culture. The phrase
“Get in loser, we’re going shopping” is from the movie “Mean Girls” and has
since been adopted into meme culture to bring awareness to funny or
meaningful places or experiences.
NARCAN is depicted to represent our deep understanding that harm
reduction saves lives.
And we went with a Mario theme because it’s awesome.
So let it be known that Hard Knox Talks is Métis owned and immersed in
culture. We are people in recovery doing our best to master our craft and
we will not be concerned with dampening the ear-piercing sound we’re
making. Because we want everyone to know we’re here.
